The U18 division of the Coco Lemay Tournament provided a thrilling conclusion to a weekend packed with talent and competition.
After a strong round robin, the Ottawa Sting finished first overall, followed closely by the GOB Blues and Canadian International Hockey Academy (CIHA). The quarterfinals saw a local battle where CIHA edged the host Clarence-Rockland Crush 3-2, while the Castor River Canucks upset the Nepean Raiders 4-3 in overtime for another close contest.
In Sunday’s semifinals, CIHA outlasted the Blues 3-2, and the Sting continued their dominant run with a 6-1 victory over the Canucks to set up a highly anticipated championship matchup.
The final lived up to the hype. With the game still tight late in regulation, CIHA’s goaltender stopped a penalty shot that could have tied the game. Moments later, CIHA struck twice, including an empty-net goal, to secure a 4-1 victory and the U18 Coco Lemay Championship.
Congratulations to CIHA and all participating teams for an outstanding weekend of hockey, sportsmanship, and excitement in Clarence-Rockland!
